![]() Prior to my knowing anything about Phantom World, I saw part of an episode during Otaku USA’s Anime Fan Fest in early May. Throw in a Japanese setting where the plot revolves around the restless spirits of Japanese mutants trying to get revenge on humanity? I’d read that. It sounds almost like Ghostbusters meets X-Men. Combining the ancient Japanese folklore of ghosts and yokai with a modern setting is not particularly new, but Phantom World had the added aspect of teenagers with super powers. This was one of those concepts that just sounded like a cool idea. This virus has also affected those of the next generation significantly, allowing them to develop special abilities that they can use to fight against dangerous phantoms. However, when a virus that infects the brain spreads throughout society, people’s perception of the world changes as the mythical beings are revealed to have been living alongside humanity the entire time. Phantoms: supernatural entities such as ghosts or youkai that, until recently, were thought to be superstition. Watch the trailer here Brief Synopsis and First Impressions: ![]() Where I watched: Crunchyroll (English subtitle) Source: Musaigen no Fantomu Wārudo light novel by Sōichirō Hatano Genres: Action, Comedy, Supernatural, Fantasy, Slice of Life Title: Musaigen no Phantom World (Myriad Colors Phantom World) What we've only seen thus far is the introduction to the anime, which i found was a pretty interesting concept regarding how humans can see phantoms, so i'll wait till the plot actually thickens before making a call.Today I’ll be doing a review of one of the more modern animes that I’ve watched this year. When troublesome spirits invade the human world, who you gonna call? High-schoolers, obviously. While it didn't have the best of starts (if you want to compare it to Boku dake ga Inai Machi) it's still WAY too early to call it shit, or for that matter, to call it good either. I'm hoping it'll get better at least or if the premise will improve.Įxactly this. It's too early for people to talk shit about this series like they know what's gonna happen unless they read the source. It's poor world building if anything. Look at Madoka Magica, it wasn't considered "good" by the people who like it until episode 3 finished. ![]() The plot has barely even been established yet. It's too early for people to talk shit about this series like they know what's gonna happen unless they read the source.īut the first episode of Phantom World was mainly world building and character introduction. It's those kinds of shows you expect to be super lewd and abs-in-your-face but turns out to be the opposite because it's filled with melodrama, plot and character development.Ĭan't compare a series with substance like Free! to something like Phantom World.īut the first episode of Phantom World was mainly world building and character introduction. If you think Free! isn't fanservice for females, then you are wrong.Wasn't implying that but there's a reason they're naked at least. Because it's not over the top sexual fanservice (minus like one scene with Rei's ass but that's Rei we're talking about). I like how Mayuka has Free! in her favourites ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)I would watch Free! in public, that's the thing. This kind of show is a step in a different direction than all of their previous titles. When someone watches a Kyoto Animation show, they expect for it to be a cute and funny slice of life type of show due to the reputation that they built for themselves. Kyoto Animation has always been a studio that is focused on being cute. The difference is that Madhouse doesn't really have a specific kind of show that they usually do, they are a wild card who cover all sorts of different genres, where Kyoto Animation does. Usually checking the genre tags, synopsis, and images are enough of an indicator to know what you're getting in for. Did you say the same for Highschool of the dead back In the day towards Madhouse? Making a ecchi'ish show doesn't really count as taking a step In any direction. Like watching the PV's, specifically the second one. I guess I'm just surprised that people who are sensitive to this stuff don't research the stuff first.
